5th Grade Visits Cracker Country

The 5th graders attended a field study at Cracker Country. Students learned about the early Florida pioneers and discovered how Florida’s early industries were shaped by the natural resources of our state. Students made a leather craft, completed a scavenger hunt, participated in a citrus packing challenge, and learned how to use the Scientific Method to study museum artifacts. They were immersed in a rural Florida community of the past and learned how a late 19th century rural family survived. Students tried their hand at farm and household chores, explored community buildings, and learned the skills of Florida’s pioneers. They found many differences and similarities between their lives today and those of children in 1898.
