No Name Calling

6th  grade is reading The Misfits, a book about a group of students who feel like they don’t belong and they are trying to stop others from calling them names. After we had finished reading, a student came to me and suggested that Trinity do some type of movement similar to the one in the book. We decided to take a tally of how many names we have been called and the total came to 331 names- FOR ONE CLASS! Students then broke off into 5 groups and focused on creating posters of positivity, slogans, quotes, and suggestions for better word choices. One group even decided to create a petition for students to sign to try and stop name calling. The petition was a hit! We have had over 130 students and teachers sign it in just one day! The amazing part about all of this is that it is 100% student led. Students want to make a difference!
