First Grade Class Explores Adaptability

Ms. Shelby

First grade explored the 5th Trinity Truth, Adaptability. They were given the challenge to build a sculpture using just straws and marshmallows. After a few minutes of working with their teams, any unused straws were removed and replaced with toothpicks. After spending some more time needing to adapt to the changes and figure out how to problem solve, any extra marshmallows were then replaced with gummy bears.

After this exploration, the students came back to the carpet and we had a discussion about what they thought went well and what was challenging. They also shared how they had to change their plans or their thinking once the materials were changed.

This was a fun, collaborative experience for our kiddos!
