Where are you originally from, and how did you wind up living in Tampa?

I’m originally from China. I came to the states to pursue my masters degree in Early Childhood Education and Teaching at the University of Florida. Trinity and me found each other through a campus career fair by the time I had graduated.

When you were growing up as a child, did you think you would wind up being a teacher?

I was raised in a family of teachers. Growing up as a child, I used to try to “break the chain” and jump out of the circle. However, not until after trying different things did I realize that being a teacher is something in my blood! This is one of the most meaningful and rewarding careers in the world!

To you, what makes Trinity a special place for children to learn?

Trinity is a place that highly values diversity. There is a lot of space for both teachers and students to use their talents, bring in their uniqueness, and reach their potentials. Trinity is not a school that merely emphasizes a student’s academic performance. It provides an enriched learning environment by connecting the community and families!

What do you think the most difficult obstacle you have ever had to overcome is?

This is my fourth year in the states. It takes a lot of efforts and courage to step out of my comfort zone. Living independently in a different culture can be challenging, but beneficial. To respect and celebrate the cultural differences also allows me to pass on a wide worldview to my students.

If there was one special thing about you that you would want to share with everyone, what would it be?

As an educator, I believe that actions speak louder than words. I wish I could live as a role model and inspire my students to dream big and work as hard as I do. Take every moment as a learning moment. The world is so big that we must put forth the effort to explore!

What is your favorite:

  •   Movie? Les Miserables
  •   Book? Harry Potter
  •   Musical Artist? Colm Wilkinson and Andrea Bocelli
  •   Candy? Not a sweet person
  •   Restaurant? Ocean Prime
  •   Memory? Looking for grizzly bears in Yellow Stone National Park

Is there anything else you would like to share with the Trinity community?

I am truly thankful to be a part of Trinity! This is my second home while I am away from my friends and family in China. It is my pleasure to contribute in anyway I can!
